Hi Nicolò,

Great question.

Medium recently changed their incentive structures (and what’s true for them is true for Better Programming). You have two options:

1. Post outside of their metered paywall. Host your post for free on Medium and include whatever sales pitches and calls to action you want. However, Medium won’t promote your piece across their network. So all you’re getting from them is free hosting.

2. Post inside of the metered paywall. You can’t include sales pitches or calls to action in these articles because they’re meant to be read by primarily by paying subscribers. These subscribers don’t want to pay for ads. In exchange, Medium will pay you based on the performance of the piece (it’s most often in the $50-$200 range, but we’ve published several articles that made more than $3000). And also, Medium will bring you readers. If you need a call to action, you’re limited to a link in your author profile and a blurb in your author bio.

In general, option #2 is the much better deal and is the only type of publishing we do in Better Programming.

I hope that sufficiently answers this for you. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out!
