The best use of technology is to create something that enables people to be happier and healthier. This is the thesis that drives a lot of my work.

As an entrepreneur and mobile engineer, there are two semi-opposing ideas that I hold in my head:

  1. Developers should be paid for their work
  2. I want as many people as possible to use the things that I create

According to The Penny Gap, as soon as you ask someone to pay you anything, your potential audience drops significantly. It’s a large part of the reason that the freemium model has dominated the App Store.

I’d rather more people use Sit than not and the best way to do that is to make it free.

Since launching Sit on September 8, 2015:

  • I’ve sold 444 units (378 to the US and Canada, 44 to Europe, 15 to Asia Pacific, 4 to Latin America and The Caribbean, and 3 to Asia, The Middle East and India [these are territories in iTunes Connect])
  • The three biggest sales days were November 11 (102 units), launch day and the day after (68 and 61 units)
  • Users have spent over 11 days meditating using Sit!
  • Sit has never crashed
  • I’ve collected zero email addresses and no personal info from any Sit users. I’ve sent zero annoying marketing emails or push notifications (Sit is meant to be your tool and yours alone)

Starting today Sit is available for free. You can download on the App Store right now.

I hope you use it, I hope you love it. If you do, shoot me an email, I’d love to hear from you — zack+SitIsRad@zackshapiro.com
